I'm so glad this 6 Track EP has fallen into my lap, Lets start with a brief history lesson, The band comprises; Aaron Pimlott providing commanding vocals and guitar, Mark Harvey on soaring lead guitar matched by some honey-sweet but powerful vocal harmonies, Jonatas Neves on sublime keyboards and the twin groove-machine of Jon Neves's kinetic drums and Tim Hamilton's cool, throbbing bass.In a very short space of time Kairos have released two highly acclaimed EPs, gigged in both the UK and mainland Europe, appeared on national television and after just three months of initially forming, made their live debut in front of 8,000 people. Im so glad I have been given the oppertunity to review Kairos 6 track EP "Piercing The Darkness", it has given me a opportunity to find out about such a great British Rock band, and I hope you will to.
As said the EP has 6 tracks, starting with "Break The Cycle" with it's heavy guitar rift and driving drums. With its powerful vocals and lyrics of the chorus " Be The Difference, break the cycle" you can start to see the message starting to come out, this track grew on me and by the end I was very much excited about what I was going to hear next. The Title Track of the Album "Piercing The Darkness" has to be my favriote track, with its Klaxons esq synths which adds a dance-rock feel. Its very refreshing to find a ep with two very much different anthem rock tracks that don't sound loose or hollow as the album's opening songs. The EP doesnt sound at all hollow that you sometimes find in bands who are starting up. Piercing The Darkness was produced by Paul Burton and this must be a factor of why the quality of sound is coming through.
You all know im not a fan of putting bands into a box, but if I had to, the bands to explain the next two tracks "Make A Move" & "Future" would be a cross of a heavy Klaxons & a more guitar rift Editors. Two great Songs.
This leads to the darkess track of the album "Solution", starting with an acoustic guitar and clever dark synths in the background. The song dicusses if there is a "Solution" to a woman who seems to be in pain through drug abuse. There is a dark beauty to this track. Its a very sad story yet written and sung which such feelings that you can feel the pain of this person. The EP ends with "Little Song" which takes a softer and more radio friendly turn.
Kairos are a wonderful British band, who if this is the first time you have heard of them, I honestly would recomend this as a album, in a 6 track EP it has everything, heavy Rock, Rock, Indie, Dance and a little Pop. Check this album out just to hear the track "Solution" you will not be dissapointed. My only wish is that there were more tracks. Can't wait for the album
