Interview: Brought Into Being

Feb 24 2011

Brought Into Being are an exciting new rock band from the UK who recently released their debut album 'The Game'. LTTM spoke to the band to find out more.

For those who haven't heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got involved in making music?

All of us have all been involved in music and bands for a majority of our lives, whether that was dream theatre cover bands, punk bands or a bunch of guys not taking themselves too seriously but having fun making music. We formed as brought into being in the summer 2008 and we saw it as an opportunity to make a difference. We spent a lot of time writing, recording and practicing before we launched ourselves into gigging almost a year later. Since then we have been gigging, touring and producing our album.

Tell us a little bit about your debut album 'The Game' and what the inspiration behind it was?

The songs were a collection of songs that we had been writing over the 2 years running up to the recording of the album. I had been playing around with a new song concept 'the game' and liked this idea of treating life like a game, but we never got anywhere with it. It wasn't until we were in the studio laying down all the other tracks and one wasn't quite working, so we resurrected an old idea and before we knew it the game was born. When we were looking at the album and what to name it, that song seemed to sum up the whole album so it became the title track.

Which is your favourite track on the album and why?

It is completely different for each of us in the band, and for me it changes all the time but I think at the moment I would have to say looking forward. Our producer David Evans got creative with some cool effects and we really pushed the vocals. for me it is a very exciting song, but with some great dynamics in it.

What's your song writing process?

We don't have a set process for when we write, but generally it starts with someone bringing a riff, a chorus, or some lyrics, then as a band we jam, bounce around ideas and as a whole produce the finished product. We are all perfectionists so it can take a long time for songs to be finished but we love that method because we get to bring all of our creativity together.

How would you describe your style of music and what are your influences?

Our music is not easy to define. We have all grown up listening to very different things and that is evident in the music that we create. At the heart of it we are a rock band, but there are elements of pop, prog and 80's power metal. We were once described as a cross between mcfly and 80's power metal, but we would probably say more like biffy clyro and the foo fighters.

In your opinion, what makes the perfect song?

I am a lyricist so love to listen to the lyrics and what a song is about, but i think the perfect song is a mixture of beautiful lyrics with the little cosmetic touches that make it exciting to listen to. I find myself listening to what is in the background just as much as what is in the foreground.

How would you define success in your career as a band?

Of course we would love to play Wembley, play sold out stadium tours all over the world and will keep trying to. But I think success for us would be to not loose our vision, to keep singing and speaking truth wherever we go whatever we are doing. But tours, albums and endorsements would be great! Ha

What advice would you give to any aspiring bands out there?

Do it, practice hard, write songs, get to gigs, if you cant play gigs, make them happen yourself. if we can do it - anyone can! And treat every show like your playing a stadium - even if it's to 10 people, if your loving it, so will they!

You're stuck on an island, it's hot, you only have enough battery life left to listen to one song on your mp3 player. What track is it?

That's such a hard question! I would probably have to say Anna Molly by incubus, just because I love that song so much!

What does the next year hold for Brought Into Being?

We are writing again, so hope to have load of new tunes to gig with throughout the summer. We are touring with empire nation through march and April and hitting as many festivals as we can across the summer. We look forward to seeing as many people as possible along the road this year, check www.broughtintobeing.com for all the latest gig dates, weekly cover videos and more.
