The first single off this new album might be well known to people who have seen TobyMac live, as during that tour TobyMac let Shonlock sing Something In Your Eyes, a nice gesture to help a friend out.
With it's clever palindrome title, Shonlock's new album Never Odd Or Even opens with that single, Something In Your Eyes which is a dance pop anthem. It's a stunning radio friendly song and really wouldn't be a miss in the mainstream. The song is one perfect party anthem and a stunning opener to the album. Could U Be has a bit of a slower tempo, again keeping with the modern dance Hip Hop beats, but with a slightly darker feel.
Hello moves more towards the pop feel, a catchy chorus with an upbeat feel. For me, again this is one song that could be a great single. Monsta converts the upbeat opening into a slightly darker side, with a solid hard and heavy beat. The lyrics and tone change into a more aggressive stance bringing a new edge to the album, but it's a great song at that.
Another few dance anthems on the album include the tracks Set It Off and Bet Ya House. If there is one song that will get you on the dance floor, this has to be the one. Overall that is what this album is about, great party dance hip hop songs that have a positive message. Shonlock knows how to get people in the mood to dance, with great beats, great lyrics and great anthems that are as good as anything in the mainstream charts at the moment.
