I have always enjoyed the sounds that Keith & Kristyn Getty have produced on their albums. So once I saw they were going to release a live album I was very excited.
Their latest album, 'Modern and Traditional Hymns - Live at the Gospel Coalition' is a sixteen track album that was recorded live in the spring of 2013 at the National Conference of The Gospel Coalition in Orlando, Florida.

As an album this release sounds brilliant. The way the album is produced is top quality with everything sounding full and at the same time like a true live album, with everyone singing their hearts out to God. Sometimes this isn't easy to capture on a recording, but all over this album there are some wonderful moments of heartfelt and passionate sung worship.
This album draws on traditional and modern hymns including a selection of songs from the Getty's well known catalog. The very beautiful version of In Christ Alone is well worth the album price in itself.
One of the strongest aspects of this album is the way it flows. From songs like Kyrie Eleison to O Church Arise, it seems this album has been thought about a lot.
The vocals of these two worshippers are again as brilliant as they were on the last album. The moment I hear the sound of Kristyn singing it is just something else. Put her voice with some great musicianship and wonderful worshipful hymns and you end up with a stunning album.
I could talk about each track, one by one, but as I said this album isn't about one or two songs. This album works as one whole package. Sixteen tracks is a lot of songs, but each track deserves to be there, from the opening lines of Christ Is Risen, He is Risen Indeed to the acapella version of Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God Almighty this album just flows as one amazing time of worship.
Honestly, I am not the biggest fans of hymns. I would rather listen to something new, but that's me. But when they are played and sung with such passion like they are on this album then you can't help but want to use them in your own times of worship. I have to admit Keith & Kristyn Getty have really opened my eyes to how great hymns can sound. This is one of the best sounding hymn albums I have ever heard and is well worth checking out.
