The EP entitled Fresh Brew, brings us a sample taste of some of his new tracks and a hint of what is to come from him. The three track EP is a mix of hip hop, rap and electro pop.
The opener track, This Time, starts with the electro pop feel, and features Jones' skills as a rapper. It is a great track in terms of style and sound, and one of the strongest on the EP.
Dreams is a dance track, light on lyrics, but has a good beat and as with all the tracks features some rap.
Days Go Bye is a long track, over seven minutes in total, it has a hip hop feel to it at the start but then moves into instrumental at the end of the track, which may sound strange but actually works quite well, slowing the vibe down, and would have rounded off the EP nicely, however it does I think go on for a bit too long.
Overall this taster EP is a showcase for Coffee Jones, while there are some GRITS elements in his tracks, it is a fresh take with a more hip hop, pop feel with some dance thrown in for good measure. It gives Jones his own personal stamp as a solo artist. This EP is a good debut and will appeal to hip hop fans and I'm sure previous fans of GRITS will also enjoy this. I have been left with the taste of Coffee Jones and look forward to hearing his full length album when it is released.
