Interview: Pivotal Awakening

Sep 07 2020

Pivotal Awakening, a Michigan-based Contemporary Christian pop / rock band, have just released their new single 'Not That Different'. Louder Than The Music spoke with the group's Andy Graves to find out more about their music, their hopes for the future, and what makes their music stand out.

Tell us about your new single 'Not That Different' and what the inspiration behind it was?

We play together as Pivotal Awakening and on our church worship team. Not That Different was inspired by a conversation with two other worship team members following a practice. The conversation was about how society divides itself and labels pieces of itself, and how those divisions cause seemingly endless problems, fears, and anxieties. We talked on the way out of church that the concept would make a great song, and within about an hour had the title, basic framework, and message of the song developed.

Do you have plans to release further songs soon?

Yes! We are busy recording every week. We typically release a song about every sixty days or so. Not That Different is our fifth song. If you like what you hear, look us up on your favorite streaming service or at pivotalawakening.com. And stay tuned for more!

What message would you like people to take from your music?

Many of our songs touch on subjects that are sometimes hard to talk about. Our second song, August Rain, addresses sudden loss, grief, healing, hope, and faith. Questions Answered, our third song, speaks of confronting end of life and making the transition to Heaven. Yet, no matter what we may be facing, God is always there to guide us and help us. And no matter what happens, God is in control.

It is our prayer that people find a deeper personal connection with God as they listen to our songs. We also pray that our music encourages people to commit their lives to God. Our debut song, Soulblind, is about an individual's spiritual journey from being a lost soul to finding life with God. Our fourth song, Awaken and Rise, is about being brave enough to be the person God created you to be. We believe our entire musical journey to be led by God, and we often call our experience "God's Amazing Plan." We feel blessed to be able to share our faith through music, and hope that energy is heard and felt by our listeners.

What does the next year hold for you?

We will continue to be busy writing and recording. We have five more songs currently working through the recording process. We wrote five new songs during our state's COVID lockdown, and we just started writing a sixth. We should be starting the recording process for those in the next month or so. We just filmed our second music video on August 23rd and are looking forward to seeing and sharing it. We hope to do our third music video later this fall. And we can't wait to see where God's Amazing Plan takes us next! Psalm 57:7
