Melanie Penn Releases 'Don't Worry' Single Ahead of Fourth Album

Sep 24 2019

New York City based singer-songwriter, session vocalist, and worship leader Melanie Penn has released her latest single 'Don't Worry', ahead of the release of her fourth album, planned for 2020. The first lead single 'I Will Trust' was released in July.

Born and raised in Northern Virginia, Penn moved to Manhattan immediately after graduating college to pursue music full-time. For many years she was a mainstay in the NYC theatre scene and an award-winning musical theatre actress. In the roles of Sandy and Patty Simcox in the Broadway tour of the musical Grease! she traveled to 48 states sharing the stage with 50s icon Frankie Avalon.

A spiritual experience was catalyzed by the events of 9/11. After the twin towers tragedy, Penn visited Redeemer Presbyterian Church and very soon became a worship leader and involved with Redeemer City to City, an organization founded by Tim Keller. She also transitioned from musical theatre to songwriting, and has since released three studio albums: Wake Up Love (2010) and Hope Tonight (2014), and IMMANUEL (2017), an original album about the Christmas story.

Penn’s songwriting is inspired by folk and pop music of the ’60s and ’70s; she cites The Beatles, John Denver, Judy Collins, and Joni Mitchell. But she’s also influenced by the American songbook of the ’20s and ’30s Gershwin, Irving Berlin.
