Croydon's tEMPLE Release 'Foundations' Album

May 06 2019

tEMPLE, who formed in 2018, have released an album called 'Foundations'. Led by worship leader and songwriter Jonnie Temple, the tEMPLE family was born out of the Burn 24/7 events, and inter-church gatherings in Croydon, UK.

"The album was recorded in a couple of live sessions one evening", explains Jonnie. "We didn't want to produce a polished performance. There is so much of that within the christian music industry, and granted, there are some incredibly talented musicians and gifted worship leaders in the world. But we wanted to produce a good representation of a realistic live worship session, errors and all."

Born in Bromley, South East London, Jonnie grew up in church life. Having fronted two christian bands (ska punk outfit, Blunt Skulls & swing/folk band, Little Blue Light) he also regularly leads worship at his church. Jonnie and his family moved to Beulah Family Church, Thornton Heath, in 2016, with a heart to serve the wider Croydon church. After getting involved in wider church meetings, he gathered a group of musicians to record his debut worship album.

With a desire to capture an intimate live feel on the album, they opted to record at West Croydon Baptist church, the host venue for Burn 24/7. On December 1st 2018, in front of a very small congregation, the album was recorded. Having totally crowdfunded the project, 'Foundations' was independently released on April 19th 2019. Opting for a realistic representation of the live session, a non-perfectionist approach was taken to the mixing of the album.

‘Foundations’ is compiled of worship songs written by Jonnie Temple between 2011 and 2018. The name is derived from a desire for worship songs, written and inspired from scripture, to be more prevalent during public worship; Songs with a biblical foundation. (This is emphasised in the album artwork; each scripture reference used in the songs creates the overlaying text on the front and back covers).
