Louder Than The Music

Jess Debenham is a singer, songwriter and passionate worshipper based in Brighton, UK, who has been serving on worship and songwriting teams at her home church, Emmanuel, since 2016. Last year Jess released her debut single ‘Come to Me’ based on Matt 11 v28. This was played multiple times on Premier Praise, featured on Louder Than The Music, was voted fourth in A Step Forward’s Contemporary Worship May 2022 Music Chart, and its music video was released June 10th. She then released a further two singles, ‘Infrastructure’ and ‘Great I AM’ that have featured on multiple playlists. And she is now excited to be releasing ‘Behold Him’ this Good Friday.

Jess wants to create for the Creator, to present the consistent and powerful truths of the gospel and the glory of God’s nature with fresh perspective. Jess’ songwriting encompasses themes of closeness with God, His divine holiness, and His never ending grace. Through lyrics that portray the Jesus of the Bible clearly, the wonders of His character, and the excitement of His coming, she hopes to inspire people in their relationships with God, and the mission of living their everyday lives in His light.

Having experienced a season of God revealing his truth in the face of lies - about His character, and herself - Jess hopes to share the journey of truly understanding and accepting grace with every listener and worshipper. She hopes for them to know the depth of God’s faithfulness, and the freedom that He has for them. Jess’ heart for ministry is to empower members of the Church to walk with God as they surrender their lives to Jesus with gladness.

‘Behold Him’ is Jess Debenham’s upcoming professional release. Jess was struck by the contrast between Jesus at the transfiguration in ch 17 and our risen Saviour in Revelation with His broken, marred frame at Calvary. The lyrics portray this paradox and encourage people to lift their gaze and look at our victorious Saviour, our Lamb, our champion.

'Behold Him' is a celebratory anthem of the victory in Jesus’ finished work on the cross. Jess’ ethereal vocals deliver a gospel joy in the resurrection on top of triumphant and elating instrumentation that lifts the listener’s attention to the glory that is set in Christ.
