Interview: Dewaynega George

Jun 06 2022

Dewaynega George, a singer/songwriter and worship leader from Guyana in South America, has released a single titled 'A Successful Family'. Louder Than The Music chatted with him to find out more about his music.

For those who haven't heard of you before, can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you got involved in making music?

Well am 26 years old,I grew up in Dartmouth village where I attended Nursery primary and secondary school on the essequibo coast, I was always involved in singing in church. Since there wasn't much in the village, and because of job opportunities, I moved to Georgetown, the capital city of Guyana, where I started working as a lawyer assistance. However I knew within my spirit I felt called to use my gift for the honour and glory of God.

Tell us about your new single 'A Successful Family' and what the inspiration behind it was?

It is my recent single, which is written, composed and sung by me. Growing up in a single parent family wasn't that easy. As our mother played the role of a father and a mother, to provide for us, we worked together as a family and much was accomplished. Supporting each other as a family, looking out for each other, we shared our ideas, thoughts and feelings, we prayed and cried. We shared memories of our joyful moments, we lived peaceable with each other, we laughed and encouraged each other.

I always wondered about our earthly father if he was here with us, what it would have been like. I was thinking about love and care, I thank God for his mercies and grace towards us. A family that prays together stays together, little is much when God is in it.

Do you have any plans to release more music in the near future?

Oh yes I have two songs I'm working on, God you've been good to me, and Miracles. I pray I get to record them soon.

What message would you like people to take from your music?

Acknowledge the Lord your God and he will direct your path.

God's timing is the best, He's never too early nor never too late, O taste and see that the lord is good. Despite our challenges he's able to deliver us.

How would you describe your style of music and what are your influences?

Inspirational gospel music has always been my number one, I feel connected to this so much. The others are pop, Reggae and worship style. Jesus is the way the truth and life.

If you could work with any songwriter, who would it be and why?

Jonathan McReynolds and Tauren wells. Both of them are amazing. The worship and pop style is the way I somehow imagine mine to be.

How would you define success in your career as an artist?

I have a lot of ambitions and I believe that one day my dreams will come true… But as of now getting my songs released on time and reaching a lot of people through it, as an independent.

What is your favorite album of all time?

Kirk Franklin, Johnathan McReynolds, Tauren wells, Leandra Johnson.

You're stuck on an island, it's hot, you only have enough battery life left to listen to one song on your phone. What track is it?

The hymn, It is well with my soul.

What does the next year hold for you?

The aim is to reach young people out there for Christ. Music is a powerful factor in reaching people and well as reaching God's own heart.
