South Africa's Tikae Maestro Releases 'Tribe Rua, Vol. 1'

Mar 04 2021

South African multi award-winning songwriter and a producer Tikae Maestro releases his debut project 'Tribe Rua', featuring other artists.

Following the release of his debut single Falling in 2020, Tikae Maestro is uncovering more of his genius and sound through this fascinating offering of his first EP, 'Tribe Rua, Vol 1'.

The Tribe Rua EP was recorded as a response to a burning desire Tikae had to inspire a new, modern African sound in Gospel music and in music in general. For this project, several guest artists were invited to be a part of the experience. These include gospel songstress Lebohang Kgapola, young and prolific artist and organ player Lungelo Ngcobo, upcoming articulate poet Torch Everblazing of We Will Worship, and hip-hop artist Z_lus the Zeal. This gave the EP an added touch as each of those artists brought their signature sound to the music.

Tikae himself is no stranger to collaborations, having been the music director for We Will Worship and Loyiso Bala, and having worked on many projects with the likes of Khaya Mthethwa, Ntokozo Mbambo, Lebohang Kgapola, Bongi & Collen, Bongeziwe Mabandla and Margaret Motsage just to name a few.

The project is an exploratory body of work 24min long, featuring 3 songs, and behind the scenes interviews. The first single is Desert Song, a cover of a composition originally written by Brooke Ligertwood and performed by Hillsong on the album “This is our God”. This offering is a re-imagining of the song from the aural perspective of an African heritage, giving a unique expression and buoyant energy to the inspired lyrics. The 2nd is an original song Phakama, which aims to fuse western simplicity of lyrics with the depth of African rhythm and harmony to produce a unique worship experience for multicultural contexts. The 3rd is a zulu song writing collaboration with Lebohang Kgapola, a serene auditory adventure that explores the language to express our deep desire for our souls to find rest in God.

This EP is the first of many to come, and hopes to inspire the world with the fusing of western influences and technology with African and South African rhythmic and harmonic forms that transcend culture and speak to the body and soul.
