Interview: Chris Kardiac
Connecticut rapper and entrepreneur Chris Kardiac talks to Louder Than The Music about his new single 'Unconditional', and how he threw away secular music opportunities and instead turned to God to start a new life in Christian music.
For those who haven't heard of you before, can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you got involved in making music?
I'm Chris Kardiac. An artist and CEO of ViZual Hights Inc. I've been involved with music secularly since I was 12. Got into unwanted rap battles at 14. By 19 I had the attention of Warner Bros. Being young and irresponsible is why we lost the opportunity. Since 2009 I had been doing various projects. I got saved by Jesus Christ May 26, 2016. I completely surrendered all my music desires. Wanted nothing to do with it. I started working on my relationship with the Lord. Few months later I started getting lead to christian hip hop music. I was really thrown off but I remembered back in 2009 my father wanted me to do Christian rap music instead of what I was doing. To me all of it worked out full circle.
Tell us about your single 'Unconditional' and what the inspiration behind it was?
God's love is reckless. The depth of who he is is unfathomable. Sometimes I feel like "That's it buddy. You're done God is done with you". Then He just comes by and makes things different or new again. I started to learn that we walk in seasons and different times with him. Sometimes you feel so far. Sometimes you feel so close. But either way the blood of Christ makes you new again. The heart behind unconditional was always "He's not done with you yet".
Do you have plans to release any further music this year?
Always working. ALWAYS. Content and consistency is key. Whether it's albums, EP's or even free mixtapes (Check out KARDI-ovascular) I'm always trying to keep the ball rolling and keep things happening.
What message would you like people to take from your music?
I'm just like you. I have my questions. I have my doubts. My times I'm up and strong and down and weak. Kardiac stands for Psalms 73:26 - My flesh and my heart may fail but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
How would you describe your style of music and what are your influences?
A lot of people say unorthodox. I guess I'll stick to it. I try to not be like everyone else with the same type of music style.
How would you define success in your career as an artist?
I'm just very blessed and honored. I can say I'm a musician when people say it's impossible to make it a career. What the blessing is is that I dont have to be someone I'm not and lose who I am for this.
You're stuck on an island, it's hot, you only have enough battery life left to listen to one song on your phone. What track is it?
DJ PV - Bueno es Dios.. At Least Jam out and remember God is good before I gotta go all Tom Hanks with a Volleyball til further notice.
What does the next year hold for you?
Even if Covid is still locking things down, I'm still going out. I actually wanted to do a lot more street performing & Busking. Besides that just keep pushing. Connecting and networking.
