Mats Dernánd Wins USA Songwriting Competition

Nov 30 2020

Songwriter Mats Dernánd from Sweden has won the USA Songwriting Competition, the world's leading songwriting competition. He takes home the first prize in the category "gospel / inspirational".

His winning entry "Judas" is a pop song that, among other things, is about the ongoing battle for our hearts.

"It feels completely unreal that a jury with the world's largest record company has hand-picked my song from almost 50,000 entries. I'm a whole unknown songwriter. It is difficult to take in", says Mats Dernánd.

This was the 25th edition of the USA Songwriting Competition. Both professionals and amateurs from all over the world participate in the competition. The winners in 15 classes were selected from almost 50,000 entries by a jury with representatives from the world's largest record company. Previous winners include Alannah Myles and Gino Vanelli.
