Written by Yancy and remixed by Will Franklin Chapman (Drummer of Colony House / son of Steven Curtis Chapman), the new version of “Super Wonderful” is based on the original powerhouse song inspired by Yancy’s son Sparrow and his love of superheroes.
“I wrote this song to share about our ‘super big, super strong, super wonderful God,’ the greatest superhero of all time!” exclaims Yancy. “It’s been sung in churches, schools, homes and minivans around the world. And it’s always a blast to perform this song live!
“However, I remember having an ‘aha’ moment last year thinking about my son and how he inspired me to write this song,” continues Yancy. “Because of his inspiration, this truth has been sung on the lips of so many kids and families making a significant impact beyond what I could have ever imagined. The beauty of music is that everyone has their own story attached to songs. No doubt this one is full of them because, in every season, our God is super wonderful indeed.”
This year, Yancy is celebrating 25 years of music, and the new remix is a celebration of that milestone. Recruiting Funky Franklin (Will Chapman) to remix the song, Yancy also had help from her son Sparrow, now 12-years old, who used his artistic talents to create the graffiti art for the cover as well as the design for the T-shirt.
In addition to the new remix, Yancy recently released her cover of the worship song “Holy Forever” (Chris Tomlin/Bethel), with more singles to come. She also created and arranged her first Christmas musical for Lillenas Music entitled Best Christmas Song Ever with Yancy, an energetic and unique new musical geared to children’s choirs. The musical follows along as a group of kids compete in Yancy’s challenge to write the best Christmas song ever all while learning important lessons found from the Christmas story.
“Life has come full circle, the journey gets sweeter, but even still, nothing has changed about our super wonderful God,” shares Yancy. “Along the way in my career, God directed me to make music for children and families. Worship is a big element of that. The fact that I get to help kids fall in love with Jesus one song at a time is an honor. I’m thankful for my past and His faithfulness that is my testimony - but I’m also excited and expectant for my future. In many ways, I feel like I’m just getting started.”
In the coming months, Yancy can be found leading worship for First Baptist Dallas’ iCampus Kids, and at numerous churches across the country as she leads worship for Vacation Bible School (VBS), at camps and speaking at events such as the Experience Conference in Orlando, FL (Aug. 29 - Sept. 1), the KidzMatter Conference in Nashville (Murfreesboro), TN (Sept. 12 - 14) and more.
