I have always thought that the best books begin as though the story is already being told; no great big long introductions as to who the characters are, where they are and where they have been, just the writer taking you straight into the action with what you need to know.

Read More I have always thought that the best books begin as though the story is already being told; no great big long introductions as to who the characters are, where they are and where they have been, just the writer taking you straight into the action with what you need to know.
Hosanna starts this Resurrection Letters Volume II off with exactly the same principle. Maybe after 13 years recording Peterson has the formula nailed. It needs no introduction; it has nothing to add to the expectancy, it just gets straight to the point. This is old school folk in its freshest, and possibly most honest, form.
The music itself throughout the album is uplifting and melodic in all the right places. The lyrics are honest and accessible in their story telling, and heartfelt in their prayers. The Good Confession (I Believe) tells the story of Petersons baptism and his journey from their in a way that many will identify with but will have felt shame in admitting.
The guitars play beautifully through Don't Give Up On Me while not taking away the soul wrenching lyrics and melody before keys come in to join in and the song is complete. Hosea brings some beautiful harmonies to the mix and follows on from the uplifting All Things New perfectly, before the album slows down again.
Have I Got News For You bites back proclaiming the message that Jesus can find anyone who needs to be saved and save them, no questions. The album mellows itself out to the harmonic tones and beautiful guitars of Windows In The World winding things down perhaps ready for another powerful start on Volume III?
