Seeing a band live is still the best way to experience their music. Hearing the pounding drums, the vibrating bass, overlapped with distorted high energy guitars, then mix in the crowd singing along to every word that the frontman sings. Seeing bands live is still great and always will be.

Bands and record labels have realized that if they can record a live gig and put on a CD it will sell, and yes over the last few years more and more bands are doing this, some capturing their live sound better than others, but still the CDs are selling in their shed loads.
Now this leads me onto one of my favorite bands of last year, Tenth Avenue North who have released their new live CD/DVD 'Inside And In Between'. Recorded during the band's recent tour, the album includes a six-song live CD plus a DVD featuring a 45-minute concert video, a series of video journals where lead singer Mike Donehey explores the message behind the songs, plus interviews and music videos.
The band in 2010 released their last album The Light Meets The Dark, I described it back then in my LTTM review as "a great acoustic rock album. I hope you can tell how much I have enjoyed this collection of song". This album really helped me through a hard time in my life last year, with songs like On & On, Healing Begins & Any Other Way being put on repeat and listened to when I felt sad and upset about the death of my wonderful and amazing Grandfather (miss you every day Da). I really owe this band a lot for writing songs that helped me at that time.
Now moving onto this year's live six-track album from Tenth Avenue North, and yes before you think I missed the obvious, six tracks is very short for the album, and in my opinion not enough songs for a live album. But what makes up for it is the amount of great material that is on the DVD to keep all the fans happy.
This live album is a mixture of songs from the band's last two albums, 'The Light Meets The Dark' and 'Over And Underneath' (great album as well). The songs from their 'Light Meets The Dark' album are Healing Begins, Strong Enough To Save and You Are More and the tracks from 'Over And Underneath' are Love Is Here, Hold My Heart and By Your Side. All of these are strong songs on their own album, but do thet come across well live?
Yes! This album isn't let down by production, and the band sound stunning live, with a good mix between the instruments and the crowd. You do get a real sense of being there with the band rocking out with them. Cold there be more songs on this live album? Yes, but do you know what? These six tracks are so good I'm actually going to forgive them for it. If this live album is the stop gap between albums, then this is a great album to take a breather on.
