It's very rare that we review a movie soundtrack on LTTM, yet here we are with a review for the soundtrack album for the Motion Picture 'God's Not Dead'.
The movie takes its name from award-winning group Newsboys' hit single 'God's Not Dead', the Pure Flix movie follows college freshman Josh Wheaton who is challenged by his atheist philosophy professor to provide evidence of God's existence to his skeptical classmates.

The film, in approximately 600 theatres nationwide, boasts an all-star cast including Kevin Sorbo (Soul Surfer, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys), Shane Harper (High School Musical 2, Flipped), David A.R. White (Six: The Mark Unleashed) and Dean Cain (Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman), with special appearances by Newsboys, and Willie and Korie Robertson of the smash TV series Duck Dynasty.
The movie sounds very interesting and well worth seeing, and the soundtrack that goes along with the film is equally impressive. The CD features tracks from of course the Newsboys, Superchick, JJ Weeks Band, Jimmy Needham, Stellar Kart, and Tricia among others, and the songs picked are very good.
There are tracks like 'Hold You Up', which is a lovely acoustic number, Ones and Zeroes' which is a smashing out and out rock song, and 'Save A Life' by Manic Drive which is a really stunning tune. I was actually surprised how many songs on this album I really enjoyed, and the mix of styles was impressive as well.
Yet there was one song that I didn't enjoy as much, title track 'God's Not Dead' by the Newsboys. I loved this song, actually I think it's one of the best songs to have been written in the last few years. Yet sadly this Movie version has been slightly spoiled. Every time there is a pause in the vocals of the song, a line or two of dialogue from the movie itself is added in. So one moment you're hearing Michael Tait blasting out some vocals, and the next moment you hear some spoken lines from the film. For me it just didn't work, and I would have rather just heard the great song that it is.
There are so many great songs on this album that I really enjoyed, some I hadn't heard before and some I had, but overall it's a great selection of songs to go hand in hand with the movie.
