At the start of December 2013 Kingsgate released their new album Faithful. Last year Kingsgate celebrated its 25th year, so the album is in part to mark that occasion. The album was recorded on a night of worship in late July.
More and more UK churches are releasing live albums. I think the world of recording live albums has become so much easier and churches are recording their own songs as a tool for whoever wants to hear them. Thankfully these releases are usually of a very high musical standard and this release is no different.

This modern sounding album fits perfectly into the same genre as most modern live worship albums. Guitars blasting, drums and bass thumping, synths adding atmosphere and singers giving their all to worship God. This album has a really deep soul to it with song after song of really top quality music.
Tracks like Freedom in Your Light and For Your Name are hard hitting powerful worship songs, they will get you off your seat and jumping. But it's during the brilliant Remembering and Bow Before that we see the worship team express themselves in a more intimate kind of way. Simon Benn sings, "You are the way, you are the truth, you are the faithful one through and through" which is so true that you have to just let that song wash over you.
Another standout song on the album is the brilliant title track Faithful, which takes it's time to burst into life, but the musical contrast from the start to finish is just wonderful. By the time the song is done you will have your hands in the air worshipping God.
The bass work on Now Is The Time is exceptional and I love the guitar sounds of Redeemed Restored, but for me it's during the intimate moments where the album really shines. I love those songs that start off slowly and then explode into a time of worship, where the worshippers are just singing out like nothing else matters. One of those kind of songs well worth mentioning is My Soul Longs. Truly epic.
It is always wonderful to hear the sounds coming out of any church that has Jesus at the centre. Kingsgate have put together a bunch of songs that are really very good with Jesus at the heart of every one. From a musical side, the album feels very fresh with many of the songs varying in style and approach. With this album you feel you are on a journey, which the church I'm sure have been on. It's great to see them sitting down and writing songs to bring Glory to God for what He has done over the last 25 years of the local church in Peterborough.
