Read More New Wine is a wonderful event which takes place in the heart of the British Summer. Every year, once the leaves on the trees start turning brown for the autumn months, the worship event release a live album from the summer weeks.
The title of the new album is 'Deeper: Live Worship From The Arena 2013' and features worship leaders including Martin Smith, Rend Collective, Sam Bailey, Brian Doerksen, Nick & Becky Drake, Chris Lawson Jones and Susie Woodbridge.
Looking at the track listing on 'Deeper' I can see why people will enjoy this album. It includes two songs from former Delirious lead singer Martin Smith, 'Great Is Your Faithfulness' and 'God's Great Dance Floor', both taken from his latest solo album, 'God's Great Dance Floor Step 02' and also features songs from Rend Collective Experiment.
Of course the album has many more wonderful songs and one of the biggest songs of the moment is Oceans, sung originally by Hillsong United. This versions washes over the soul and sounds like a beautiful fragrance of praise to Jesus. I could listen to this live version over and over, and I love the piano sound on this song.
Another song originally from that same album is the track Scandal of Grace. Again the worship leaders and the team have done amazingly well to create theses sounds in a live setting. I love the slightly more dirty sounding guitar, which adds an intensity to the worship.
There are so many solid and brilliant upbeat worship songs on this album, including opening track The Greatest Love which is a great modern sounding worship song that will stir the heart: "A love we don't deserve, freely given to all".
Yet it's the Martin Smith track God's Great Dance Floor that will really get the feet tapping. It's a great song with Martin sounding as good as ever - could this song be one of his best songs ever? The same could be said for Great Is Your Faithfulness, another solid song that you will sing with arms open up in worship to the King of Kings.
I'm sure you will also be clapping, dancing and stamping your feet along to the track Build Your Kingdom Here. The vocals sound like they are giving their all, which is the only way to sing this song. But for me it was Holy Spirit You Are Welcome Here that I put on constant repeat. There is something about that song that I just really love.
If you were at the event this year, I'm sure you would have engaged with these songs in the musical worship times at New Wine. The quality of the production of this album is very good but what this album does best is take you closer to God in worship. Perfect.
