Water Colours

Swimming With Dolphins’ music hits the ear with sparkling waves of pulsating sound, carrying messages of love, longing and faith upon its bubbling beats. Weathering the departure of Adam Young (of Owl City mega-fame), SWD carries on as the brainchild of Austin Tofte, who augments his breezy lead vocals with the sweet tones of touring member Sarah Beintker and (on “Happiness”) guest singer Sunsun. The music here is a frothy confection of surging melodies, sunny choruses and starry-eyed sentiments, often bringing to mind ‘80s-era techno-pop and early computer-game soundtracks. “Sleep to Dream,” “Holiday,” “Jacques Cousteau” and similar tunes provide sustained bursts of pure positive energy both musically and lyrically. “Diplomat” and “Happiness” introduce some funkiness into the mix; “Good Times” opens up to allow hip-hop artist Mod Sun to deliver a rap segment. While boy/girl love is SWD’s favorite subject, the shimmering mid-tempo track “Captured” offers heartfelt praise to the Lord.
