Gospel Artist Lisa Page Brooks Releases 'My Life'

Dec 18 2018

US Gospel Singer Lisa Page Brooks has released her latest album 'My Life', produced by her husband Michael Brooks. The Detroit native is best known for her role in the Gospel group Witness but is now a successful solo singer.

Lisa Page Brooks is the artist who broke Marvin Sapp’s nearly seventh month chokehold on the top slot on Billboard’s Hot Gospel Songs chart in 2010 when her #1 smash “I Want To Thank You” pushed his “The Best in Me” to the side. It’s just one of many fetes in a career that has seen Brooks perform for a sitting President, earn Grammy Award nominations, snag a Stellar Award win, tour the world with the legendary gospel quartet Witness and star in several touring stage productions.

The Motor City native began life as the second of three children born to Charles Warren Harris of the legendary Motown group, The Monitors. They enjoyed hits such as 1966’s “Greetings (This Is Uncle Sam)” and recorded the original “Just To Keep You Satisfied” that was featured on Marvin Gaye’s landmark, “Let’s Get it On” LP. “The Temptations were always at our house,” Brooks recalls of her youth. In spite of her father’s line of work, Brooks preferred gospel music. She and her sister sang around Detroit churches as the Voices of Eden and in 1986 she rounded out the contemporary gospel quartet Witness that enjoyed hits such as “Standard”, “Safety” and “Clap Your Hands.”

Although, she’s continued to perform with Witness over the years, Brooks has been a solo artist since 1997. In 2009, she was singing at a Philadelphia music conference when she sang a song, “I Just Want To Say Thank You,” she had recorded with her church choir in 2001. “That song wasn’t a hit,” she recalls. “I just felt like singing it and the people went crazy. Hundreds of people were lined up and said, `I want that song’ and I didn’t even have the song. It was on the choir’s project. Then, the next day the radio station called and said they were bombarded with calls and emails about this song.” That event led to the song being released nationally by Baltimore, MD’s Habakkuk Music Co. The song reached #1 on Billboard’s Hot Gospel Songs chart in the fall of 2010 and was followed by her Top 20 reggae hit, “God is Good.”
