Navina Preparing To Record Follow Up EP To Debut Release 'Colours'

Oct 19 2017

Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Navina Rajan has started work on her second EP as the follow up her 2014 debut 'Colours'.

Writing on Instagram the talented singer said, "Recording #EP 2 in a few days! Demos are all produced and the work has been real so far, thoughts and prayers are appreciated that it all comes together."

Navina was a Best Unsigned Female nominee in 2015 and BBC Yasser's Ones to Watch 2016, with the BBC Radio 1 DJ saying "Navina is crazy talented! She has her own folk style of singing which is completely unheard of in the scene, such a likeable sound which makes you fall in love with her music instantly."

Navina started playing the piano and flute as a child but fostered a love for song writing on the guitar at the age of 14. She also plays the bass. Growing up, she was always surrounded by various styles of music, some which continue to inspire her: The Bee Gees, Cat Stevens, Jamie Cullum, Brooke Fraser and Maroon5. Her sound has been compared to an easy-listening “early Norah Jones” with an edge of pop and folk and Feist.

At the age of 17, she started performing and since then has played at numerous local and international venues and festivals.

She loves producing her own music, including her debut EP, which she self-released at the age of 19 on all major distributors and continues to promote. All of the three original songs were initially produced and recorded as demos in her home studio, of which some material still features in the studio versions.

Since its release, the EP has received extremely positive feedback in the local and international press, receiving "10/10" across the board and being termed a "masterpiece" by Canadian music magazine 24ourmusic. It has been played several times on BBC Cambridgeshire, BBC Coventry, and BBC Introducing as well as being Pick of the Uploader. It has been aired on other national and international radio's as well as being Best of British Unsigned's "One to Watch".
