Former 1GN Member Carmen Justice Releasing Solo Album 'Against The Odds'

Oct 06 2017

Carmen Justice, best known as a former member of Dove Award-nominated pop act 1 Girl Nation (1GN), releases her solo album 'Against The Odds' on 13th October.

After five years of recording and touring with 1GN, Carmen stepped out on her own in late 2016 to pursue a career as a solo artist, bringing an edgier/alt-pop sound to complement strikingly honest lyrics.

From Katy Perry's "Roar," to Rachel Platten's "Fight Song" and last year's "Confident" from Demi Lovato, there has been no shortage of empowering, huge-sounding, female-led anthems at the top of the mainstream pop radio charts the past half-decade.

Sonically, Carmen Justice's radio debut "Against the Odds" could fit right in with those aforementioned hits; but where those songs lyrically incline toward a more inward-focused, self-aggrandizing form of empowerment, Carmen's purpose is looking less toward our own abilities and more toward the Holy Spirit's power in Christ-followers to do great things for the Kingdom.

"I wrote 'Against the Odds' from a place where I felt so defeated by life and the music industry that I wanted to just give up on my music career altogether, but felt led to keep going", said Carmen. "I wanted to write an anthem that would inspire anyone going through a difficult season to keep pushing through the frustration, confusion and doubt.

"Galations 6:9 says 'So let's not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don't give up.' I’ve learned that when we know we are following God's will, we can walk the narrow road with confidence. In Romans 12:2, Paul says 'Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is - his good, pleasing, and perfect will.'

Whether you are the only kid in your class at school who is a Christian, a young adult feeling sexually-pressured by friends, or a married couple that feels like divorce might be the best option simply because the world tells them so, I pray that this song will encourage you to go against the odds."
