Soul Survivor has equipped some of the most well known worship leaders of this generation. Over the many years the festival has been going it has seen Matt Redman, Tim Hughes, Ben Cantelon, Lex Buckley and many others lead young people in worship. To my surprise I found out this year was the eighteenth annual Soul Survivor summer festival. Doesn't time fly when you're having fun?
This year sees a new batch of talented worship leaders appear on this sixteen track album which is called Light The Sky. Beth Croft heads up the worship with 18 year old Tom Field and 16 year old Jamie Rodwell, who are charged with leading thousands of young people in worship. They lead with passion and energy which comes across on this album.
Once I saw the track-listing to this album I knew it was going to be a good album. Starting with Beth Croft singing Jesus Culture's version of the Tim Hughes song Holding Nothing Back, which is a truly stunning version of the song, with its high energy guitars and driving drums this is a brilliant start to the album. We then seemingly flow into the Tomlin/Redman song Our God (Is Greater) a song that is having an impact on the worship of churches around the world, another strong and powerful song.
The album is jammed of amazing times of worship but the one track that got stuck in my mind and kept me singing all day, was the Hillsong track No Reason To Hide, a great fast paced energetic song which comes across brilliantly on the album. One of the strongest aspects of this album is how the record captures the amazing times of worship, it's like you're there in person.
An added extra to this album are the songs taken from the Momentum festival which is another part of Soul Survivor. Momentum is aimed at students and 20-somethings who want to get closer to God in worship and teaching. Tim Hughes leads some new songs which you might not be too familiar with, these include All Glory which was released by Nikki Fletcher this year on iTunes and the amazing spontaneous Our Hope which starts off slow but builds into a great anthem of worship.
The song choices for this album are as good as any Soul Survivor album there has ever been, with songs of the calibre of Cielo/Saviour, How He Loves and Saviour of The World I would have to say this is one of the best live albums to be released this year. If you were there to experience the amazing worship times, get this album, it captures all those amazing nights magnificently. If you want an album with some of the best worship songs around at the moment, this is a must.
