Blog: Christian Albums That Changed My World
I thought I would be a bit different today, a very random blog. I want to write a blog about 10 christian albums that changed my world, and why they mean so much to me. Everyones choice of albums would be different and I'm sure my partner in crime Dave's list of albums would differ to my list. So below is a list of the Jono Christan Albums that changed the world and a little bit of info on why they mean so much to me. This is all a bit of fun. Try to enjoy.
Jars of Clay - If I left The Zoo
I was told about Jars of Clay by a friend, who said this American band were the next big thing, I remember being ever so excited about the fact that a mainstream music mag NME were giving it a review, sadly when I read it on a train station in Cardiff, the review of 1 out of 10 it made my heart sad. Thinking about it at the time, I started to realise there it wasn't a review about the music, it was all trying to make christian music seem uncool, a quick learning curve
DC Talk - Jesus Freak
What can you say about this album, apart from every track is a classic, every track is a single, every track was good enough and cool enough to show your friends and say hey this is a cool American Christian Band. This album made me realise Christian Music could be interesting and modern
Delirious? - Mezzamorphis
Probably the best album of all time, well in Jono world anyway. To me its up there with anything Oasis, Queen, Rolling Stones or The Beatles ever made. I know this album back to back, front to back, front to front. It has the rocking Heaven & Bliss to the beautiful ballads of Kiss your Feet and It's Ok, A masterpiece
Steve - Falling Down
One of those British Bands that got away, and not picked up by one of the labels, Steve were brilliant live, and this album to me defined the British Christian Sound and feel of that moment, sadly just wish they were giving a fair opportunity as a band
Soul Survivor - Live 2002
There is something very magical about going away when your 19 years of age and you're in a massive group, and to then to meet thousands of other people the same age as you in a muddy field in the middle of the British Summer. This albums brings back memories of that, but also those songs and at that time changed my view of worship and really encountering God, Every time I hear this album it brings back those amazing worship moments
Electralyte - Scratch Beneath The Surface
Some people might be surprised as to why this album makes it into the top ten, "Scratch Beneath The Surface" has to be the best British band album in the last 5 years, it's raw, it's in your face, it's beautiful and lyrically amazing
Compassionart - Compassionart
Another newer album, the concept behind this album is amazing, get the best singer/songwriters around to make songs, they make no money off the album, The album sells, All the money goes to the charity, Bingo. But thankfully the songs aren't too bad either.
Switchfoot - Beautiful Letdown
Switchfoot have to be the best American Christian Band since Dc Talk, with their hard hitting songs and beautiful melodies. I choose this album as it has a lot of personal memories for me, Dare you To Move is a track that will always remind me of good time.
Audio Adrenaline - Underdog
Audio Adrenaline have never been a band I enjoy that much, a lot of the earlier albums I didn't think much of. But "Underdog" is a great album, I could listen to it and think ohh those were the days. Sitting in Hebron Hall Kitchen serving Christian Groups their lunches listening to this album while singing along...Good Times
Yfriday - Revolution
An album that says something, it doesn't just sit back and say the normal lyrics you would expect to come off some albums. Yfriday are the hardest working British Christian Band and this album is the best place to start if you want to know more about them
So there you have it, I hope you enjoyed that, if you're bored do it yourself. Makes you remember how many great albums are out there. Hopefully in the next few weeks, we will be doing a page so you guys can add your list to the site, so please keep checking back
