Christian Artist Briana Domenica Reflects On Loved Ones In Heaven With Her Poignant New Single & Music Video, 'That Was You'

Sep 16 2022

Contemporary Christian singer/songwriter and inspirational speaker Briana Domenica is excited to announce the simultaneous release of her new single and corresponding music video, "That Was You." The beautifully penned and poignant ballad was written by Steve Peters and Brandon Chase after Steve lost his son Jordan to suicide. It is being released in honor of World Suicide Prevention Day on Sept. 10th and will be featured on Radio SoBro's NuMu Friday at 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. CST. The song is currently available on all digital and streaming platforms.

The track, produced by Grammy award-winning musician Nate Cornell (For King and Country) was originally played for Domenica's music publisher, Dallas Gregory/Song Rocket Music at a Global Songwriters Connection event, who then played it for Domenica. The powerful song immediately moved the singer to tears as she is all too familiar with this story. Domenica understands deep loss after losing three immediate family members to the choice of suicide, including her oldest brother who she was extremely close to. Domenica knew immediately that she HAD to record this song.

"From the second I heard the demo of "That Was You," there was no doubt in my mind that the song was beyond special. It wasn't just the powerful lyrics and beautiful melody that deeply moved me, but the story behind the song was one that resonates with me. Most people have experienced the loss of a loved one, sure the circumstances might be different, but grief is something so many of us unfortunately can relate to. That is why I am so grateful to Steve and Brandon for trusting me with this incredible song that not only honors Jordan, but all those who have passed away. I pray this song brings comfort, encouragement, and hope to every listener whose heart is heavy with grief."

"Like fireworks bursting into the night sky
You could light up any room
With your warm friendly smile
I could find you in a crowd
You were always standing out
That was you
That was you

Chorus:
You were hitching a ride up to cloud nine
Barely hitting your stride in your prime
Just living life and flying high
When I look up and see a shooting star pass by
Then I’ll take it as a sign
No doubt in my mind
That was you
That was you

Never heard you say you regretted anything
You were busy chasing dreams
And living life in the fast lane
I could find you in a crowd
You were always standing out
That was you
That was you

One day I’ll see you at that pearly fence
Maybe then it’ll all make sense..."

The equally powerful and picturesque music video, directed by Roberto Badillo will exclusively premiere on TheChristianBeat.org at noon EST. It was filmed in South Florida where Domenica grew up - in three locations, Deerfield Beach, The Hillsboro Inlet, where Domenica's brother's ashes were scattered, and SE 19th Ave. Park.

Music is one of Domenica's greatest passions, but she is also profoundly passionate about suicide prevention and awareness after losing several loved ones to suicide and having personally struggled with suicidal thoughts. Domenica made it her mission to turn family heartache and tragedy into something good and founded the 501c3 not for profit, "Angel in the Sky" in May of 2016. "My hope is that, through 'The Warrior In Me,' outreach program, we can raise awareness and help save lives through prevention, education, and the power of music," Domenica commented.

Domenica is preparing to take her "The Warrior In Me" program on the road. Recently, she released her video series on suicide prevention and awareness. The program can be found on her YouTube channel as she wanted it to be accessible to anyone who could benefit from it.

Briana Domenica has a positive and encouraging message to share with all ages and wants to utilize the power of her music and her story to make a difference in the lives of others.
