Ben Okafor & The Liberators Release 'Beware of the Snake'

Jun 03 2022

Since the mid 1980s African/reggae singer songwriter and former child soldier BEN OKAFOR has been a powerful communicator and advocate of social justice, human rights, love, community and faith since arriving in the UK from his Nigerian homeland. He has released a number of albums, singles and EPs over his long career as well as performing all over the World in every kind of venue - from jails to churches to theatres and festivals - and sharing stages with the likes of the late Bishop Desmund Tutu.

Following the release of his last album ‘Diverted Traffic’ in 2009 Ben stepped back from recording new music but he carried on his tireless passion and love of humanity and equality by setting up the ‘Amaka Beautiful Child’ charity, a charity that supports community and integration through music, dance and voice. In conjunction with this he also set up and ran an arts centre and recording studio.

But after a few years of writing and recording Ben is back - but he is not alone. He is back with a band as BEN OKAFOR & THE LIBERATORS and they are releasing a brand new single BEWARE OF THE SNAKE which is taken from their highly anticipated forthcoming album "Politic Yo-Yo" (due sometime in summer 2022).

This powerful Ben penned debut track ruthlessly exposes what happens when we hunger for power above all else, and the casualties that our so called 'success' produces. "Beware of the Snake" carries the message that when we hunger after power alone, we pay very little respect to anything else around us.

As Ben explains, "The line 'slithering silver through moonlit night will show you the way to bright light' expresses the reality that however we may try to light the path to unprincipled power, we find that the thing that shows you that place, that drives you, is actually packed full of venom. The venom shows itself in the casualties of your 'success'. So, my dear friends, beware!"

"Beware of the Snake" drops worldwide on Friday June 3rd on all major digital music sites and platforms and the official video is available now on YouTube.
