'Come Together Now' Haiti Charity Single Released On iTunes

Feb 15 2010

The charity single 'Come Together Now', recorded by Christian music artists in the US to support the relief effort following the earthquake in Haiti, has now been released on iTunes. Organised by Michael W Smith, nearly 100 of the biggest names in Christian music participated in the song's recording on 27th January at Ocean Way Studio in Nashville.

Artists included on the single are Steven Curtis Chapman, TobyMac, Mark Hall of Casting Crowns, Point Of Grace, Michael Tait, Brandon Heath, Matthew West, Britt Nicole, Francesca Battistelli, Kevin Max, Meredith Andrews, Mike Weaver of Big Daddy Weave and many more.

'Come Together Now' was written by Michael W Smith, Cindy Morgan and David Mullen. The recording also featured a 250 strong children's choir. "The crisis in Haiti has left us all trying to figure out how we can help," said Michael W Smith. "We wanted to create something that the community could support, for the greater good of those in Haiti. Everyone gave of their time: the studio was donated, the musicians donated their time and all proceeds from this song will go to designated charity/relief work through The American Red Cross and Samaritan's Purse. It's incredible to be part of something that is going to help so many people."

Michael W Smith and his wife Debbie made a short visit to Haiti last week to see for themselves the relief effort being organised in response to the devastation caused by the earthquake. Writing on his Twitter page, Michael said, "Lots of homeless people here in Haiti. Hard to describe. Might take a day or so to put into words what we experienced."
