Kings Kaleidoscope was born 4 years ago leading worship for a local Seattle church, but now aims to craft music that is not limited to a Sunday morning congregation. The band is best known for their ability to creatively re-arrange classic hymns, pushing the boundaries of modern worship music.
The band features sections of strings, horns, and two drum sets. With this inventive setup, strong Hip Hop influences, and Mars Volta-esque feel, there is no categorizing their style.
The music feels like a real breathe of fresh air. Songs like Glorious and Seek Your Kingdom seem to have an originality that will impact the listener from the moment the album is heard. With a flurry of flutes and horns these driving tracks are well worth listening to with headphones on to really dig deeper into the complexity of the songs.
We are always looking for new sounds, words and even ways to worship God, and with this release the band try to do this with a fresh new wave of music. This comes out during the edgy electro tones of I Know, this song has something really special about it, yet I can't put my finger on it. All I do know is, I like it a lot.
There are seventeen songs on this album, yes, seventeen. That's a lot of music for one album, but it's nice to have so much interesting music to get my teeth into. And after a few listens, that's what I have come to really enjoy about this album, the fact that it's different, exciting and interesting. From track to track, it felt like everything was different, nothing sounded the same, which kept the album moving nicely. This is a stunning album and well worth exploring.
