And guitar music is a great way to say what this band sounds like, but more on that later. Having burst onto the Christian music scene in 2007 with the mega-hit 'Undo', and multiple other radio successes, Rush Of Fools earned ASCAP Song of the Year honors and garnered four Dove Award nominations. Their trials came with the folding of their record label and a subsequent legal process. Now with eOne (Entertainment One) the band are back with 'We Once Were'.
So what does this band sound like? They are described as Christian American Rock, and with three guitarist in the band they are an out and out rock band. But Rush Of Fools are a bit different to a lot of rock bands out at the moment. This is a rock and roll album, where the guitars are left to sound like guitars, the drums are free to express what they want to without benignly being over produced. The guitars on this album sound like they would do in a live setting, there is a little bit of rawness within that, yet isn't that what you want a rock guitar to sound like? To be fair to the band, they sound like the whole of the rock spectrum sound. What I mean is they have a few different styles on the album, one moment the band have a very pop rock sound ('Grace Found Me', 'No Other Love' & 'Won't Say Goodbye'), then in the same breath they have a slighter edgier rock sound ('We Once Were', 'You're The Medicine' & 'End of Me'). One of the standout tracks for me has to be The Killers musically influenced 'Beginning To End', just a great song.
I was very impressed with what I heard on this album, from the start all the way to the end this is a band who don't let the production of the album mess around with the sound. Guitars to eleven, drums to... well, however loud they can go, and bass thumping in the background adding depth to the sound. This album is for people who enjoy bands like Kings of Leon and The Killers, which are two very good bands to sound like!
