For those who haven't heard of you before, can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you got involved in making music?
2018 was the year I began to live my dream - making music that uplifted hearts and pointed towards the Kingdom. It started with life throwing some serious curveballs. My family and I faced challenges that threatened everything we knew.
But it was in the midst of that brokenness that God revealed Himself in a powerful way. He rekindled a childhood dream - the dream of becoming a singer/rapper. It wasn't just about music anymore; it was a calling.
Through the struggles - spiritual, physical, and financial - God opened my eyes to those who needed Him most, people just like me, searching for hope and inspiration. This experience became a defining moment, pushing me to use my voice not just for myself, but to uplift others and share the message of faith.
Tell us about your recent singles 'But God' and 'You Are Enough', and what the inspiration behind them is?
Chasing "enough" can feel like an endless journey, right? Sometimes we only feel "Christian" when things are going great. But what about the rest?
Here's the truth bomb: You already are enough. It's not about a fleeting Sunday feeling, it's about a deep-down knowing.
That message hit me hard one day, feeling down in my car. God placed it right on my heart, and I knew I had to share it with you. This song is a reminder that even when you don't feel it, you are worthy, loved, and ENOUGH.
"But God" is an Anthem of Hope When All Seems Lost "But God" isn't just a song - it's a battle cry for anyone who's ever felt trapped. It's a testament to the unwavering power of God, the one who makes a way even when there seems to be none.
This song was born from the trenches of my own life. There have been countless moments, from the brink of despair to the suffocating grip of financial burdens, where only God's intervention could set me free.
"But God" is a beacon of hope, a reminder that no matter how bleak things appear, He is always there. He makes a way out of no way, restores broken relationships, and breathes life back into seemingly dead-end situations.
Those songs are taken from your album, 'But God', tell us a bit more about that release?
A Dreamer's Journey of Redemption and Self-Discovery, "But God" is a raw and honest exploration of a dreamer's journey through the cracks of brokenness. It delves into the struggles of faith - the disillusionment with the church, the doubts within myself, and the challenges of living an authentic Christian life.
But amidst the wreckage, "But God" becomes a powerful anthem. It's a story of self-discovery, of piecing together who I am, who God truly is in my life, and who I'm called to become.
Each song on this album - from the defiant energy of "Flippin' Tables" to the introspective sweetness of "Ice Cream Love" - represents a chapter in this journey. Tracks like "Soul'd Out" and "Got Me Thinkin'" explore the depths of questioning and searching for meaning.
Ultimately, "But God" takes you on a full-circle ride through my story, a testament to the transformative power of faith even when doubt creeps in.
What message would you like people to take from your music?
My music has become a bridge for me - a connection between the struggles of life and the healing power of faith. Through songwriting, I've explored my own relationship with God, turning my music into a form of therapy for my soul.
In sharing these songs, I hope listeners experience a sense of peace and a renewed understanding: God is at the heart of everything. Knowing Him, living for Him, and serving Him become the keys that unlock life's true purpose.
How would you describe your style of music and what are your influences?
I often like to describe my music as Hip Hospel… it’s quite funny, because I grew up on secular rap and Contemporary Christian music. I had always dreamed of being a rapper, but Christian Hip Hop was just starting to come on the scene. So I was kind of forced as a kid to blend styles and influences of Third Day and CCM with blends of Rap, Pop and R&B. Hip Hospel…
If you could work with any songwriter, who would it be and why?
I was friends with Charlie Daniels that last couple of years of his life. I’ve always loved his song The Devil went down to Georgia. I would have love to work with Him on a Devil went up to Nashville song.
How would you define success in your career as an artist?
I can really only define my success by the people I’ve impacted. While I understand that’s impossible to quantify, I don’t see what I do as artist as a career, but the overflow of my relationships and kingdom work. To me it’s about lives changed.
What is your favorite album of all time?
My favorite album of all time has to be Come Together by Third Day. This was the album that set my heart and dreams focus of being an artist.
You're stuck on an island, it's hot, you only have enough battery life left to listen to one song on your phone. What track is it?
No fib, I’m probably google search an It Is Well Hymn version and play it on repeat til my phone died. It would seem fitting circumstances as such as when then song was written.
What does the next year hold for you?
This next year I have a number of projects slated that are special to me. I will be releasing my book “Between Combat and the Cross”, I have some singles slated called “Bringing Back The King”, “Somebody’s Nobody” and currently booking my But God Summer tour to inspire Dreamers and Sleepers to wake to purpose in life.
